Flu Vaccine Clinics 2020

Glebe Hill Family Practice is now running Flu Vaccine Clinics.

Annual influenza immunisation is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over. Given the current COVID-19 situation in Tasmania it is especially important this year that everyone receives a flu vaccine in order to reduce the community flu burdon and to ease the pressure on our health system.

Those eligible for a free (government-funded) flu vaccine under the National Immunisation Program include:

  • children aged 6 months to less than 5 years old
  • all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from 6 months of age
  • people aged 65 years and over
  • pregnant women (during any stage of pregnancy)
  • people aged 6 months and older with medical conditions that increase their risk of influenza disease complications

This year Australia is the first country to offer an adjuvanted Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine (QIV) - Fluad® Quad. This is available for people aged 65 years and over.

People who are not eligible for a government-funded vaccine may purchase a private flu vaccine at Glebe Hill Family Practice for $20

All Flu vaccine Clinic appointments will be bulk-billed.

Please phone 6169 0000 to book in to a Flu Vaccine Clinic. These appointments cannot be booked online.

COVID19 Precautions

This year due to COVID-19 precautions our Flu Vaccine Clinics will be streamlined to optimise social distancing measures. You must not attend for a flu vaccine if you have fever or respiratory symptoms (cough or shortness of breath or sore throat) or if you've been advised by Public Health to isolate or quarantine. Please arrive on time for your appointment - please do not arrive early or late, and wait in your car if you are early. 3-4 patients will be seated at least 1.5m apart in our large Treatment Room space to receive their flu vaccines. They will be observed by a Practice Nurse or GP for 10-15 minutes following vaccination before leaving the practice. We will avoid having patients waiting at our Reception desk or sitting in the waiting room. Please wear short sleeves so that we can administer your vaccine without you having to remove clothing. Payment for private flu vaccines will be arranged over the phone before or after your Flu Vaccine Clinic visit. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Important: The only service provided at Flu Vaccine Clinic appointments is influenza immunisation. If you require other services, including prescriptions or blood pressure checks, please book a separate GP appointment.

Please note: New patients to Glebe Hill Family Practice will require a New Patient Appointment rather than booking in to a Flu Vaccine Clinic as their first visit to the surgery.
