Medical Assessments

GPs practicing at Glebe Hill Family Practice and GHFP Nurture offer Medicals including Pre-Employment Medicals, Driver Medicals, Insurance Medicals, and of course general check-ups.

Medical Assessments are carried out to ensure a person is fit to function in a specific environment, can fulfil the requirements of a role, can travel overseas, and to protect them from potentially harmful work environments.

Pre-Employment medical examination provides a baseline health assessment for a worker before they enter a role with an employer. The examination assists with risk management and identifies whether a worker is medically suitable in the role in which they are applying.

Some patients may be eligible for a Medicare-rebatable Health Assessment.

A Medical Assessment usually includes:

  • Blood pressure
  • Vision: acuity and colour vision
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Urinalysis
  • Thorough history taking
  • Examination of:
    • Peripheral vision
    • Oral and ear
    • Respiratory
    • Cardiovascular
    • Abdominal
    • Skin
    • Nervous system
    • Basic musculoskeletal

Special tests may be arranged within the practice, if appropriate, including ECG, blood tests, and lung function testing.

Referrals for further assessment, such as audiometry, specialist review, and allied health assessment and management, can be arranged.

Please inform our Reception Staff that you'd like to have a Medical Assessment when booking your appointment, so that sufficient time with the Practice Nurse and GP can be arranged.

Unfortunately no GP's currently practicing at GHFP perform Diving Medicals to meet Australian Standards for recreational divers or occupational/Commerical divers.
