About Bethany

Bethany is a nationally registered Clinical Psychologist and she is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Bethany’s professional practice experience in psychology includes working in an oncology department with clients living with cancer and their families, with students in primary and high school settings, and in private practice.

Bethany completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and Sociology (First Class Honours) and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Tasmania. She has also completed the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical Psychology) at UTAS. Her thesis investigated sex and menstrual phase differences in the cortical processing of emotion and emotion regulation. Bethany has been awarded a number of academic scholarships throughout her studies.

Bethany is a passionate academic-practitioner in the field of clinical psychology and neuroscience and she divides her time between clinical practice and academic research and writing, and currently holds teaching and research positions at the University of Tasmania and has research connections with the University of Melbourne. Bethany regularly presents at conferences and has published a number of articles or reports locally, nationally and internationally on a variety of neuroscience, clinical, and drug monitoring topics.

Clinical Services

Bethany offers a wide range of clinical services including assessment (e.g., cognitive, personality, behavioural), and the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of psychological difficulties. Bethany is skilled and knowledgeable in treating a range of psychological issues, including anxiety, stress, depression, sleep management, and pain management. Bethany has a particular interest in working with clients experiencing psychological trauma, grief and loss, sexual dysfunction, and hoarding problems, and has subsequently completed additional training and supervision in these areas.

Bethany uses a range of evidence-based treatment approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Exposure Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychosexual Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Bethany has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults either in an individual or couple therapy setting.

Bethany selects treatment approaches according to the needs of each individual client and take a flexible approach in adapting the scientific principles of treatment to each person and situation. She is passionate about helping people understand themselves and is committed to providing a space for individuals to feel safe to talk about their problems and needs, be treated with respect, and work together toward achieving their goals in order to feel more empowered in their lives and relationships.  

Psychology Fee Structure:

Standard Fee:

  • $195 for a 50 minute consultation

Discount Fee for Health Care or Pension card holders:

  • $175 for a 50 minute consultation

Medicare rebates may be available for patients with:

  • an EPC referral from a GP for patients who have a Care Plan (GP Management Plan & Team Care Arrangement) - Medicare rebate $52.95
  • a referral from a GP for allied health services for patients who have had an ATSI Health Check (item 715 or 707) - Medicare rebate $52.95
  • a Mental Health Care Plan referral through the Better Access To Mental Health initiative from a GP, Psychiatrist, or Paediatritian - Medicare rebate $124.50

Private Health rebates may be available depending on the level of cover. Glebe Hill Family Practice uses HICAPS to process Private Health Rebates.

Referrals are welcomed from outside of Glebe Hill Family Practice.

Please note: Fee reductions are dependent on client circumstances and are at Bethany's discretion. Full fees apply on Saturdays (ie. there are no Discount Fees or bulk-billing on Saturdays)

Non-attendance/Cancellation Policy

Clients are advised that if they do not attend their appointment there is a cancellation fee.

All cancellations or rescheduling of an appointment without 24 hour’s notice will incur the cancellation fee.
