Shingles Immunisation Update

Wednesday, October 25, 2023 - 8:31am

From November 1 2023 more people will be eligible to access a new free shingles vaccination through the National Immunisation Program.

Shingles causes a skin rash that is usually painful and blistering, with some people experiencing severe pain that persists once the rash has cleared.

Adults aged 65 years and over, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over, and immunocompromised adults aged 18 years and over with certain medical conditions will be eligible for a free shingles vaccination from November 1.

Local orders for Shingrix vaccine open on 31/10/23. As with all government funded vaccines, we can’t be certain about the quantity and timing of deliveries. To prevent disappointment please book an Immunisation Clinic appointment and answer “shingles” to the booking question!

We will review the bookings and try to ensure that a vaccine is available for you at your appointment!
